Jet lag. Got home from holiday at gone 11pm after 16 hours flying. Wide awake at 3.30am. Got to go to work soon.

The only upside is I'm staying in a hotel near work tonight as I have to be in 7am tomorrow for the filming of BBC New Tricks and at least getting up so early won't be a problem.

Scottish Power. After leaving them in October they continued to take £75 a month from my account for 3 months. The bank rapidly refunded the money. This week, an email from Scottish Power saying they were increasing my direct debit to £165 (from £75 when I was with them) and telling me I owe them over £600. A long wait in their call queuing system to tell them AGAIN that I'm not one of their customers so stop sending me bills.

I always cancel direct debit mandates whenever I switch anything, then they cannot take any money. I have very few direct debits from my accounts.

I was asked to leave it in place while the accounts changed over so they could send me a final bill - the transfer to another company has been a total balls up. I can see why people don't switch.

Fair enough then, although when we moved recently I had to switch to the current supplier at the new address and then switch back. The temporary supplier was told to send me a bill and they would get a cheque, my permanent supplier was told to send me a final bill for the old property as DD was cancelled, they would get a cheque..... Both paid on time with a cheque. Now on direct debit with SSE/SWALEC as before. To be fair, the switch was very smooth.

My gripe of the day... Just spent a packet on new components for my winter bicycle only to find out today my company is introducing cycle to work scheme and I could have bought a new one!

After being dropped a couple of times on the right side, the filler cap on the radiator will no longer fit properly and has now chosen to go walkabout. I now need a new radiator @ £106.

Nowt wrong with my Gran Fondo Pete, but my Trek winter hack died this year. I was looking at getting a new Ribble Audax/Winter bike, but was persuaded to fit new components to the Trek. So I fitted new Tiagra brakes, chainset, deraillers and cassette with 105 levers for more reliable shifting. Took the stem off my Gran Fondo (got new one for that) to get the geometry more to my liking. Second hand Bontrager wheels from my brother's Trek Madone 4.2 and some new mud-guards completes the winter bike.

But I really wanted a new bike and cycle to work for a Ribble Audax would have sorted me out!
