Lemmings are not prone to committing mass suicide. This legend was due a set-up scene, in a Disney film called the White Wilderness, where Lemmings were specially imported into Alberta, Canada, which is not a natural Lemming habitat and herded into jumping off a cliff. This was filmed and edited to give the false impression that hundreds of Lemmings would routinely throw themselves to oblivion to protect the rest of the species.
In fact, same as most animals, Lemmings would rather kill each other than sacrifice themselves... So, that's me old PC game in the bin, then... |
