A motorcycle number plate by UK law has to be on 2 lines i believe.

Agreed, but legaly to be used on the road, the can or exhaust has to conform to road use and constrution regulations for modern bikes after a certian year i believe.

Correct - looked at this recently and it does - shame - the Falco came with a 55mm high plate on it - so all letter and #s were on 1 row - not allowed

EDIT: unless its a classic plate on a classic bike (or something not too dissimilar)

Loads of people don't seem to give a damn about having strip plates. I suppose if you get pulled, you get pulled.

I have to admit that I don't get it. Seems to me to be like the old 'go faster' strips on prechavmobiles... hehehehehe!!!

Same here. I'm just going to stick with my normal plate. Even if it does make me go slower!

Hi All,

I'm sure you're all aware of the new law being imposed on the manufacture of "show plates"... i.e. illegal from 1/11/08. I was discussing this with a couple of mates at the weekend as I've just bought a tail tidy and had planned on getting a 7x5 plate. One of them told me that there is also a new EU directive stating that number plates will also have to be displayed so that they align with the rear most edge of the back wheel.

Anyone heard of that one? I'm guessing that means the manufacture/use of tail tidies is in the firing line as well......

"Show plates" (ie. non standard font, wrong site, wrong colour, wrong format etc etc) have always been illegal under C&U regs.

As for the EU directive about positioning, first I've heard, but screw that!
