Bah, that was my idea too. Was going to see if I could get in a wee run up to Gourock for the ferry to Dunoon some time next week. The race is on!

It would make it a bit more interesting than a trailer pic. The idea is it's supposed to get you out on your bike after all.

Does going to Portugal count as getting out on my bike? Have I mentioned anywhere on the forum that I'm going to Portugal?

My ferry is not until 3pm, but if I get it I'll have to post by phone and the tag won't be set until I get back 10 days later.

You going to Portugal Ralph? You should have said.......

Meh, Portugal/Dunoon. It's all much of a muchness isn't it?

Normally I'd say I could nail that tag easily before Sunday but Mrs T still hasn't given birth. They're going to induce labour tomorrow so it's a question of how long it takes the wean to pop (technical term), then there's an unspoken amount of time that needs to pass between the birth of the child and ****ing off out on your bike for most of the day.

Good luck to you and Mrs Tam...
YC could have nailed this with his bike in his van at the AR. But i'd be worried about what he'd set as the following tag...lol

Got my pics on a cracking ride out today. Took the Largs road up to Gourock and caught the wee ferry over to Hunters Quay, then came back the long way round the road. The sun was shining, hardly any traffic, long sweeping twisties on a nicely surfaced road and then back home via Largs. (we'll gloss over the necessary evil of the Erskine Bridge/M8 stretch).

The memorial, to the Free French Naval Forces, is on Lyle Hill in Greenock - their home port from 1940-45. It's a Cross of Lorraine combined with an anchor, set on a granite plinth that symbolises the solidarity of the Scots and French people.

The inscription reads;

A LA MEMOIRE DES MARINS
DES FORCES NAVALES FRANCAISES LIBRES
QUI N’ONT JAMAIS CESSE LE COMBAT
ET SONT TOMBES GLORIEUSEMENT
POUR LA LIBERATION DE LA FRANCE
DANS L’HONNEUR ET PAR LA VICTOIRE

Which, roughly translated, is;

TO THE MEMORY OF THE SEAMEN
OF THE FREE FRENCH NAVAL FORCES
WHO NEVER GAVE UP THE FIGHT
AND WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES GLORIOUSLY
FOR THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE
IN HONOUR AND THROUGH VICTORY

Surrender monkeys? I think not.

One of my favourite places in the world to just sit. The views over the Clyde Estuary are fantastic. Natural beauty and the remains of declining heavy industry. It's where the word "juxtapose" was invented . You can read the names of the ships lost to Uboats if you need to get your s**t into perspective.

I've not been up around any of these places for years but I won't leave it so long next time. It was getting the tag that led me to think about it so this thread is definitely working for me.

Putting a Japanese Misile infront of a WW2 memorial somehow feels wrong!
Trumpet owners required for next post plz.

But we're all friends now!

I thought about the possibility of offence before posting - that's why I specified a WW2 memorial as anything more recent might be raw for some. But the origin of the bike didn't occur to me TBH.

I hope using the memorial is not in bad taste or disrespectful. My intention was quite the opposite. We tend not to remember the part played by the forces of the occupied countries in their own liberation.

I knew what you were thinking about Tam.

Hence why mine is one that many bikers on here will have passed and not even noticed.

It reads the following (It'll be the right way round in 10 minutes)

and here's what happens on a Pan at the corner
