I don't mean to have this thread go on a tangent. Will start a new one about this.

Just a quick note to say i've recently put renthal ultra low bars on and replaced the front sprocket to a 14t. Between the two it has transformed the bike for me and meant the sv gets the love it deserves again rather than being stuck in the garage.

Works great on the road with much improved comfort - still works well on the track.

HIGHLY recommended to anyone!

Ps. great thread - very informative.

Before it was bog standard stock K5 650s. I'll nip to the garage this evening for an 'after' pic.

I have cleaned up the foot pegs and levers, rubbing down the rusted parts and painting them with gloss black. I have also discovered that the rear brake carrier used to be silver, but over the years has corroded into a grey horrible mess. This has also been cleaned stripped back and painted in gloss black.

I quite like it if I am honest.

The process of rebuilding is slow, it takes me a long time to do simple jobs and I need to rest a fair bit, but the project is coming on. The exhaust has also been cleaned as well as I can do at the moment.

So much still to do...

PS, the ghostly face in the monitor is from the film I was watching while I painted.

Pegs look good. Why is the caliper green?

Do you get MS Paint on those computers?

Thank you for the kind comment. It is the camera flash that makes the calliper look green, it is actually blue and I did this to match the Yamaha Blue spot front brakes that will be going on soon.

As for the computer, it is two old monitors to replace my huge one that went pop!

I do have MS paint on there, but it is the much more complicated windows seven version that is proper dull. I do my photo editing on the Chrome book on one of the free aps. I do not enjoy overly complex computer programs, they have this annoying habit of destroying my will not to throw large heavy lumps of metal at the huge computer screen.

Today's jobs...

sy63 by Jayne Carter, on Flickr

Yes it was time to pull that manky shock off and start to check out the bearings that it all runs on down there. The bolts came undone easily enough using a long bar and a good socket. Each nut and bolt is in very good order, rust is minimal.

The same cannot be said of the rocker. I have grave news on that front. The bearings are buggered!

My next concern is to find the replacement bearings, do any of you know if we can simply replace these or do I have to buy a whole rocker? Either way this is cash I don't have at the moment so will have to wait.

The next job though is to remove the swing arm and check those bearings, I do not have much hope for their health.

I did get the castellated nut off with great ease though, thanks to the love of my life donating a socket for me to chop up.
