Stop buying things that turn into nightmares.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
If you can tell me how to predict that then I'd gladly follow your advice?
I don't have much luck. This is bought from a dealer for piece of mind, in theory.

That doesn't look great. I guess the only way to tell is a strip down.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Which I'm hesitant to do unless the dealer wants me to. I've been stung before doing my own investigative work and then having a dealer say I took it apart so it's my fault now. They need to be given first option in my experience. Just a pain that they are a 200 mile journey from me.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
That doesn't look good. What if you take the legs out, check them and if they are fkd put it all back together and take it to the dealer. They're not going to know are they? That way you don't have a wasted journey

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Did you say you've already tried greasing for stiction? And have checked settings? https://dirtrider.net/forums3/thread...roblems.63060/
Did you lodge your issue and hpi request in writing? If another mechanic finds a problem it can be charged back to the dealer to correct the issue in theory. Another garage can give you a quote/their thoughts before you decide what to do next. I had similar a few months ago, took my chances and bought blind. Inspected it thoroughly before use and took a picture of the odo and emailed my initial report straight back to the dealer. Being 200 miles away also, they played the same card so I told them I wanted £450 parts and labour (dealer prices) or I'd be returning the bike to them for a full refund and recouping the transportation costs from them via the courts, we pretty swiftly settled on £250 which was more than enough for my local mechanic to do it.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
At this point I think it's worth being optimistic that it is needing a service of the forks than them being bent. I also think it would be unlikely there will be a crash on the hpi....epecially as these sorts of bikes are often dropped away from the road but worth an ask.
See what a local reputable garage says, they should tell you that much for free...if they're decent

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I've emailed JHS to see if they can do an independent check as they're local to me. I've greased the seals and they move smoothly at all other points in the travel, so don't think the seals are the issue. You can hear scraping internally too. Bushings? Everything points to a slight bend jamming the fork at that point in the stroke.
HPI showed nothing when I checked it. I'd be happy to pull them apart to get checked. Just don't want it to affect the 3 month warranty that the dealer gives, so need their go ahead first if possible. Can't really check them without them being totally taken apart and top and bottom separated with seals and everything removed. I was looking at £50 of new seals and bushings and £60 spring to improve the forks anyway and they sell regularly second hand for about £180 for the 2 legs with all internals.

I bet this is why I found the lenses on my bike had been superglued on!
