They are raising the speed limits from 70 to 80...yes
thats an increase of (calculator) say 12.5% in speed
crash energy (the forces you experience) is not linear - so does not go up 12.5%
crash energy is exponential and will increase 400%
This applies to all speed increases from 10 to 20, from 20 to 30, from 30 to 40 etc
now you are more educated it is easier to understand speed enforcement as every mph counts

shoot me down if my sums are wrong - sure this is correct

Yep, you need to do your sums again!

Kinetic energy of a moving body = 1/2 x mass x velocity (squared)

Therefore if a 1000kg car increases from 70 to 80 its energy increases from
484 KJ to 632 KJ that is an increase of 31% not 400%.

Think that deserves a firing squad

for that bit of physics.

i deserve a good kicking !!! was working on a rough 4 times thinking that was 400%.......
Still...........I'm puzzled......this 100kg car you are talking about.....this must belong to Noddy as must be very small...and Im unsure if Big Ears would agree with your sums as real physics dont apply in toy land !!
