In the attempt to charge my Bluetooth headset. I put the wrong lead (right plug. Too big a plastic part of the plug) and broke the contacts.

Er...No one would pretend to be an American. However if I could only win the lottery or get a good job offer in the UK, (roughly the same odds) I would be on the next flight over and happily pretend not to be one.
