Re: Quote of the day (sorry, Brexit related)
The case about the Gina Miller action was widely mis-reported and mis-represented. I remember clearly the BBC headline saying the law lords had "decided that MPs must be able to have a say in invoking art50". Nothing of the sort. The courts clarified the law regarding invoking art50, in that it "REQUIRED an act of parliament to AUTHORISE the government to invoke art50", the law said nothing about MPs having a say etc, that's a different issue entirely. Laws are (generally) written the way they are for good reason, and should not be paraphrased.
"A requires B" is not he same as "B must have a say in A". This sort of mis-representation is the fuel of propaganda. All sides use propaganda.

+1
Another MP who thinks he does not have to respect a majority vote, he must have sat too close to Anna Soubry ( or even the poison dwarf Bercow ) and caught something. You can see why these people like the EU so much, non of them knows the meaning of democracy - MP's are servants not masters, if referendum vote had been counted along constituency lines over 400 voted leave - which would have been a landslide in a General election.

Re: Quote of the day (sorry, Brexit related)
It was in Labour 2017 manifesto to implement result of referendum, as a Labour MP he is bound by that manifesto commitment. Only the libdums and greens (+ SNP ) were anti brexit and non of them did any good (SNP lost a few seats ha ha ).
There were actually two votes on Brexit, on in June 2016 and another one in 2017 when the snap election was called.

Re: Quote of the day (sorry, Brexit related)
Was that the election where the government didn't get a majority and had to buy votes from the DUP who then walked away with the money? You miss Lammy's point. There are times when the right thing is to stand up to the electorate and tell them they are wrong. Was it right that William Wilberforce stood up against people for the abolition of slavery? Was it right Churchill stood up to Hitler? Was it right Bevan stuck to his guns? And was Lammy right to defy his constituents over the Duggan shooting? Without this strength we would be living in a world where there are slaves in a Nazi state with no health care and rioting on the streets. I'm grateful that sometimes a politician makes a stand against the stated views of the people. They are fearlessly political debates at the time, but years later you look back and are baffled why. Politicians do not have to blindly follow what the majority of the constituents say. That is wrong. That is a myth. That is a story pushed regularly by newspaper owners peddling their own agenda. That is the road to a parliament of two houses: Twitter and Facebook. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Quote of the day (sorry, Brexit related)
Red ones you miss the point about 2017 election, sure mother Theresa did it her way ( would not take advice ) and still managed to get highest share of vote Tories had enjoyed since 1983, Labour did well by promising impressionable people stuff ( as usual ) but the parties that were specifically anti brexit did badly, so that tells you a lot about David Lammy swimming against the tide and the remainers with their desperate guerrilla tactics to subvert democracy.
