Thanks MZ, i have read the section in Haynes, and decided it looks like an absolute headache, but then everythng in Haynes looks complicated until you've actually done it and then when you re-read it it seems perfectly clear!

I dont think im happy tackling this on my own, besides i might get my new shiny sockets and spanners dirty

Its more complicated because everything has to be got at by removing the tank & air filter box. So that means removing the riders seat to start!

I've done valve clearances loads of times, but even I know the Sv is going to be a pain to do, because everything is difficult to get at. Which is why the garage wants so much to do it?

At least it only needs doing every 15,000

But I just had a brain wave, maybe we could check the valve clearances at the AR? It could wait til then? But it might mean no ride out

Thanks MZ, im not really in a hurry to get it done, it just bothers me that i dont know when or if they have been done, so it'd be nice to get it seen to at some point for peace of mind more than anything else.

Haynes manual put me off at step 2:

1. Make sure engine is cool - i can do that
2. Remove radiator - Oh god no!!!

But at least its a good opportunity to change the cooling fluid at the same time

It isn't a big job, unbolting the cams to get to the buckets and shims is!

It'll give more access to the front cyclinder head too

Oh its just too complicated, my brains heading for meltdown, i really appreciate your help but think id better start saving up £150, i think im well out of my depth here

We could have a go at the AR but id be really reluctant to get all the way to Wales and risk not doing the rideout, that would be absolutely gutting.

Yes, it would be a shame to miss the rideout.

Trouble is, doing the VC is an all day job by the look of it. Doing it in a field is also adding to the problems

The Haynes manual makes me laugh, everything in it is done on a brand new bike. So when it says "undo bolt A" what it means is "The head of the bolt will snap off and you'll spend the next 16 hours on getting it out". That's why I leave jobs on the bike to someone else.

So will 'someone else' have your bike up and running ready for the 30th Scott?

I'm gearing up for summer- I could almost set up a microbrewery now. Just ordered some fermentation bins that'll hold 25 gallons of wine between them! Which puts my total capacity to 40 gallons...

Mmm I do like wine.

Hee hee, I don't think there's any other consumables that need replacing. New tyres, rebuilt brakes and serviced, I swear I'll scream if anything more needs doing to it.
