Brother in Law away in Spain - his bike is sat here at work. He's just replied to my email - the one with me begging.

He's only said yes! Guess I'll be taking the GSXR1000 home tonight.

And hopefully bringing it back in one piece tomorrow!

check your insurance to make sure you are insured to ride other bikes. also make sure that the gsxr is all road legal including insurance.

Finally one of the cases I am on settled out of court so I dont have jury duty today!!!

Lance - yep and yep.
I wouldn't have asked him if I had any doubt's. Checked tax online - It's just had an MOT I took it there for him, 2 units down. And he said it's insured, always is, just in case he fancies riding it - muppets only done 1900 odd miles in the last 4 years!

Having had a go on a 1000cc fire breathing beast, I have discovered a few things.
A: I have no self control with limiting my speed. Bad boy. And B: I don't think I would want to ride such a beast everyday commuting. My license wouldn't last very long, or worse still my kids wouldn't have a dad very long.
Still nice to know that at 40 I'll still not a grown up and can behave. Looks like I'll be sticking to my SV for awhile longer, till I can rein it in.

This is exactly my problem, I want a bigger bike but after having a go of my mates R1 - I had the same feelings.

Get yourself a bike with a 675 displacement and no fairing

I personally think 1,000cc sportsbike are basically pointless in the real world. Unless you enjoy riding at tickover or in 1st or 2nd gear. I like being able to use the engine and sometimes see the needle hit the red line...

I did see the needle hit the red line, 2nd and 3rd, at which point you are entering warp drive - and running out of road. That was the problem.
Didn't try it all the way in first, I wanted both wheels to stay on the ground as it wasn't my bike.
So I too am thinking it'd be pointless in the real world. Too stupid quick when going, yet a heavy brute when filtering at a near stop. It did love those corners though - even with someone with zero confidence in a strange bike.
Shame I just can't kick the feeling of wanting one though...
