nope its on the desk. I always make sure to put it on a large hardback book if I'm using it on the bed or on my lap, I know they can overheat easy.

probably just nothing, my laptop usually gets thumped very hard when i plays up , its now designated to the garage

It could be that an advert on facebook using flash played a beep through your speakers.

It could be that Windows sound events had been changed somehow to beep on click of certain objects (Vista does it by default on menu clicks).

It could be hackers attacking the laptop & it gave you a "silent alarm beep." (Figured I'd better put the smiley so you don't get paranoid).

To be honest though, without hearing it, it's hard to tell.

that could be likely, but again I've not heard it before, not even on facebook.
