Re: Broken down with a dead battery
Not necessarily. The previous battery had been in there for about 3 years, and was only a budget battery in the first place. If it was a RR failure I'd have known about it sooner, given the fact that the bike gets quite a bit of use.
No, fairly certain it's a battery failure, probably as Craig says, a collapsed cell. It's the fact that the battery lost all it's charge while not being used and wouldn't take a full charge when hooked up to the Accumate charger which points to this. |

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
Yodel were supposed to have delivered my new battery today by 19.10pm at the latest. No sign of it by 7.30 so onto the live chat who reckon the driver tried to deliver at just after 5pm and left a card. Nope. I was here and they didn't and they didn't. Supposed to be delivering tomorrow now. Could do with that battery.

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
The new battery arrived yesterday, and the old one was collected to go back to Tayna. I'll nip out and fit the new one later. Hopefully I'll soon get a refund for the old one.
Don't think I'll be riding the bike anywhere today though. The rain here is like stair rods. |

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
It seems like my electrical woes are not resolved.
About 20 miles into a ride today the fuel light started flashing despite the tank being half full. This is what happened a few minutes before the bike died the first time. I switched off the lights and thought I'll make a run for home. Bike ran perfectly with no lights, so I stopped on the way through Welshpool and then tried restarting the bike. Enough juice for dash lights but not enough to turn the engine over. Bumped it and it started readily, so straight back home with the lights off. Stopped the engine at home, then tried restarting it and it fired up - twice. It's obviously getting some power to keep it running. Question is, is it the reg/rec or the alternator. I need to test both to find out. I hate electrics. Anyone close by have a better understanding than me, and fancy coming over and guiding me through the diagnostic process? |

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
Just done a quick test, and the regulated voltage with the lights on main beam and the engine at 5000rpm (my neighbours must love me!) is low at 12.4V - 12.7V.

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
I'll check the alternator output tomorrow. If that's ok I guess it's going to be the reg/rec, as you suggested, glang.

Re: Broken down with a dead battery
I would love to help but I can't leave my wife for too long. I would suggest reading that link I put above. Check the alternator first in the tests suggested, if that all looks well then its probably the reg/rec.
On the other hand it might just be a corroded connection. Sent from my moto g(50) using Tapatalk
