Nearly everyone does 90+ on the M53, especially the bit around Wallasey. It's straight as an arrow for maybe 10 miles, excellent visibility, 3 lane, and fast. A lot of people are going to get banned and they're prefectly safe drivers.

at the end of the day law is the law and you cant compain about getting caught breaking it, the reason its 70 is to allow us to stop in time if there is an accident think how much longer it would take from 90 (yes i know the highway code is out of date) but its still going to take longer which would mean a 2 car collision could easily become a multi car pileup then people would be saying stupid government for allowing people to go so fast!!!!

Are you serious?
It would take me an infite amount of time longer to stop from 70 than it would from 90, because I would have to wake up first.
At a speed I chose, I am happy with my level of concentration & observation.

Not hitting the accident that happens in front of you is about maintaining a proper distance between you and the vehicle in front. It occurs to me that there is nothing in these proposals that deal with tailgating, which is the real cause of the vast majority of crashes on motorways and trunk roads.

Actually the reason is a reaction to Jaguar testing the E type at 150mph on the M1 where there was no limit. Remember cars then had cross ply tyres and drum brakes...

I agree with BB, if you maintain correct distance and look further than the 6ft in front of you, you reduce the chances of having the accident in the first place. As said above, correct lane discipline would be a good starting point as well.

IMHO its just another way of taking money off the motorist.

How is increasing the points element plus increasing the numbered of banned motorists who can longer pay petrol duty, congestion charge or tolls or fines, going to increase the money they raise

Surely thats an example of the UK motoring community DISAGREEING with the government as is allowed in a Democracy.

Surely every speeding ticket is a vote/call for the law to be changed/reviewed?

Nothing in these proposals about catching people using their phones at the wheel.

Yet again it's speed speed & more speed that causes the accidents. But a motorcycle is not going to cause the same amount of carnage as a big 4x4 at 90mph.

But everyone is tarred with the same brush. One rule for all.

This is more work for the safety camera vans, but you'll not see them used outside any of our busy school roads, only on A & minor roads.

So unless you're speeding, you're unlikely to be caught at the wheel, with a can in your hand, whilst talking on your mobile.

I agree with the locating of camera's at accident black spots & average speed cameras to slow and smooth the flow of traffic, where fixed cameras cause slow, fast, slow, fast speeding syndrome. Just as dangerous as no speed cameras in my experience.

Is Brunstrom on the panel of advisors? Someones got a bee in their bonnet about speeding.

Perhaps Joe Public ought to have a say in where to locate the safety camera vans

More traffic cops doing proper policing rather than technology

they are also doing away with the 10% +2mph guideline, so if you are doing 1 mph over the limit you get points and a fine as well. if the police enforce this then the public really will lose any respect they may have left.

oh , and no sign of them catching the ****ers that burgled us yet. surprise, surprise.
