Re: Bikers protest against fuel prices
Use your freedom of expression and ability to demonstrate while you can.
Try and remember that as the body politic, we vote for our government and therefore it is us who empower them to do what they do (I know it's a simplified picture before anyone cares to correct). As such, it is our needs and best interests that should be reflected in 'Governmental best practice' for the greater good of the majority. If we, the voters, believe that we are being misrepresented or ripped off we have several ways of acting. Most are too time consuming and/or complicated to bring into play, however, a mass demonstration cannot be ignored. By interfering with commerce (that'll be the thousands of commuters!), we make the government sit up and take notice (money involved, you see?) and hopefully act on our behalf. I fully support the peoples right to demonstrate. Do remember not so long ago in history, we the common people had no rights, no freedom of speech, no anything. Government already dictates that we cannot demonstrate within one mile of our own parliament (or is it Downing Street? God forbid we should spoil the Prime Ministers day, huh?) which means if you do (which until recently it was your right to) you will be arrested! Little by little our freedoms are being eroded and few seem to be aware or care. I for one do not wish to live in a Nanny state, under constant supervision, having rights which are not rights at all, having no freedom of choice and being beholden to a Government that does what IT thinks is best for us whilst disregarding the views and opinions of the very people who put them in power. Yes, we put them in power, and if we want to make a difference and if forced to act, through unity, communication and understanding we must. It is our right; I plan to exercise it while I can. Too much tax on fuel? Damned right! If we are to pay this much at the pump, do away with road tax and let those that use the most buy the most. Or tax the vehicle AND the fuel exorbitantly then sit back and laugh as the money just rolls in. Who cares if a couple of hundred bikers got off their backsides and bothered to show their disgust in a very public way? I do. I care very much. Respect to all who went. I'll be on the next one. Regards to all, Ride safe (and free while you can) Rich PS Rant over |

Re: Bikers protest against fuel prices
Apparently there is to be a nationwide fuel protest day on the 22nd June. Open to every one in the land. I've read a couple of things on the net, unfortunatly I'll be at work at 6 that morning so probably will miss it.
However if there was a way............
