Something really wants London to get it, although i have no rational explanation for that.

I still reckon we should go for a footy world cup instead.

I honestly believe that this country needs the boost it could get from this.

I would like London to get it... in many ways, we're owed it after hosting it in 1948 - it didn't matter that we'd been torn to shreds by German bombs for 6 years.

Yes it'll be expensive, but I think that will be significantly outweighed by the business and repeat business brought to this country.

Barcelona is a good example - it was a mess before 1992, and now it's one of the finest examples of a modern city.

If it means that they improve public transport, then it might be a good thing. Otherwise I don't really care.

this is a good argument. is there any modern city, for want of a better phrase, that given the opportunity would not wish to host the olypics? i dont think there are. it'll be massive. it'll be fab and groovy despite my earlier cynical view.

manchester did a cracking job of the commonwealth games a couple of years back, London and the rest of the country will do an even better job IHMO

i thank you.

You can thank Tony, Gordon, and the Bank of England for that. Changes in Stamp Duty will only agravate the situation.

If London get it, it wont make the slightest difference to facilities near me and I'll end up paying towards it.

If Paris/Madrid/moscow/New York get it, it wont make the slightest difference to facilities near me and I'll end up not paying towards it.

So, who to vote for

I reckon that in 15 years' time, the east end will be full of redundant ping pong halls, velodromes, and badminton courts - all will be crack dens, and no go areas 'cos they aren' being used, and were only used for two weeks of their lives.

Still, i reckon it would be fun.

Get buying houses in Ilford, Romford and the like - i expect these will shoot up in value nearer the time!

i think they should host it in africa. think they would need the busines more than us.

or better yet. iraq

To be honest i would rather it was held elsewhere as scotland is unlikely to benefit from it
