IAM for newbies

just looked on the website for IAM but it does not give that much info like how much the course is, how long and what they do? Any help guys

I think it's £85 to join and it takes as long as it takes. They cover general advanced road riding.

the £85 covers membership to the IAM, membership to the group (in my case the Middlesex Advanced Motorcyclists -MAM http://www.middlesexam.org.uk/ ) and your test fee.

MAM run a four week course on four consequetive Saturday mornings which are included in the Skills for Life package. Then it's up to you to join group observation session, slow riding courses etc. You apply for the test when you feel ready or are advised to by an observer.

It's been great fun and I intend to continue to ride with them once a month or so.

Congratulations.

I've signed up, paid up, been allocated to an observer, rang to remind them I still 'ere. Still no first ride. Now I face the dilemma, ring up and appear pushy or shut up, be patient.

push, you want to get out as soon as possible while the weather is good. youve paid your money after all

I think the checks are a good thing if they discourage people from using dangerous (or stolen) machines but I felt that they were being a bit OTT about it. I've got 7 days to re-MOT it JG

The tug was nothing to do with the IAM. I just happened to be on an observed ride a day after passing the test and got pulled over by a Thames Valley patrol.

The police observer guy (Met. Police) I was with thought it was a complete farce and was fuming, suggesting that I should make a complaint since my chain definitely wasn't worn.
Can't contest a un-baffled can though, eh?

Just seems ironic and pointless, that's all...

o i thought that was part, of the iam in that case i my do it after all

did my iam test with my scorpion can on (not for road use) and they guy just said the bike sounded fantastic. they are more interested in teaching people to ride safer than worrying about illegal end cans, well thats t he case up here anyway.
