The ride isnt about going fast, its about being social, if you can ride at 55- 60mph on an A road you'll be fine.
As for the panic braking, just dont ride up the chuff of the bike in front of you. It seems a shame to come all this way and then not explore when you're down here and you wont find some of the roads we're going on just by exploring with a map
