Zanussi are good, steer clear of anything hotpoint unless it's a fridge or freezer, as Tara says Candy are quite good, they did tend to put all the duff bits into one machine though so if you got a bad one it was really bad.

Could always rent a young maiden to take your washing to the local river & beat it on a stone.

Thnks for the offer - I have one of these already - is old and crappy plus spin cycle jumps accross the room but managable in the short term.

Yup - sounds familiar! My hotpoint flooded the kitchen for its final time a while ago - not its just stopped working.

Bummer. Cant afford a replacement at the moment, so im relegated to washing everything by hand.

Ok, sadly my feedback is worse than useless on this.
We have nothing from a reliable brand that i can offer you Sorry. Seems like this must be the season for it or something.
The only cheapies i can get hold of are Servis ones and i dont really know about them, if they are good or bad i mean.

We are a household that eats washing machines.

We had a hotpoint that went and went and eventually rusted through the drum so had to be replaced. The wife insisted on Zanussi and did not bother with extended warrenty as they never go wrong. (How nieve we were), at 13 months old required new motor £120, at 14 months required new controller £180. Sod that we put the £180 towards another hotpoint and bought extended warrenty. In the 5 years we had that we had the motor changed 3 times, bearings twice, shockers (Yes washing machines have shockers) twice etc. The extra for the warrenty was money well spent.

After that died at about 6 years old we have bought a bosch. including extended warrenty which we have yet to use. I have a brother who owns a domestic appliance retailers. He swears by Meile and if you cannot afford it then Bosch.

I notice my local B&Q are knocking out cheap washers at £199. but did not look at name or spec
