Re: Vegetarian
Of course we could fix it but we won't because it would mean a totally new way of living and that would mean painful sacrifices and be expensive. I tend to laugh at the idea of it being expensive - if your house was on fire would you quibble over paying the fireman?
Yes, the climate has changed before, it has been both colder and hotter, what it hasn't done before is change in such a short time span with 7.8 billion people dependent on the existing climate for food production; there will be famines. The Earth has also had a methane atmosphere and we're not well adapted for breathing it (and all that methane is still around waiting to be warmed up and released - look up methane hydrates). If people won't even have a vaccination for the common good (and their own health) there is no way they will make the sacrifices needed to save the biosphere. I'm not optimistic.

Re: Vegetarian
Asking people to make expensive sacrifices for the future based on pretty shaky evidence ( considering the history of the world the time humans have been on the planet is about the same as a thickness of paint on the end of a 60 foot plank, or even less ). If the high priests of the climate change religion travel all over the world in private jets to slap-up conferences in plush hotels maybe they are not telling us the whole truth, or just do not care, and treat the whole MMCC thing as a business opportunity to be exploited...

when 98% of climatologists say it's a problem then that isn't shaky evidence unless you're a conspiracy believer. It's a moot point because our current efforts at fixing the problem rely on trying to drop in alternative energy to replace fossil fuels to avoid "inconvenience" and those efforts won't be enough. Fourier demonstrated the effects of CO2 in the atmosphere in 1824. Exxon knew about climate change 40 years ago. https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...-40-years-ago/ Obviously, you can choose to believe what you want but with every country now experiencing weather extremes and global temps rising steadily as the CO2 ppm marches upwards, I'll believe the climatologists not some guy on Facebook who uses seaweed and a pine cone to tell me everything is fine.

https://public.wmo.int/en/media/news...ne-hole-closes https://www.discovermagazine.com/env...he-ozone-layer Why is it closing? Because we limited the use of CFCs (although China has been cheating). The problem now is that whilst the replacement CFC's are better than the original it has been partially compensated by the increased usage in developing countries. So we can effect change on a global scale if we choose to do so.

Re: Vegetarian
I guess you didn't read the articles showing the slow closing of the ozone layer hole, so a better quote would be:
"against stupidity, the Gods themselves, contend in vain" (Friedrich Schiller)

Re: Vegetarian
https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard...-its-discovery
Seems that warmer temperatures above the poles are responsible for closing the ozone layer, so MMCC / MMGW ( or whatever it is now called ) is fixing the ozone layer.

"There is no identified connection between the occurrence of these unique patterns and changes in climate." ... and... "Thirty-two years ago, the international community signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. This agreement regulated the consumption and production of ozone-depleting compounds. Atmospheric levels of man-made ozone depleting substances increased up to the year 2000. Since then, they have slowly declined but remain high enough to produce significant ozone loss. The ozone hole over Antarctica is expected to gradually become less severe as chlorofluorocarbons— banned chlorine-containing synthetic compounds that were once frequently used as coolants—continue to decline. Scientists expect the Antarctic ozone to recover back to the 1980 level around 2070."

Re: Vegetarian
scientists will defend their study blindly even when they are proved wrong. even when they are right half of the science community will say they are wrong.
you have to remember that some very intelligent people think the world is flat... FFS we cant even predict the day to day weather properly so what chance do we have of predicting climate change. |
