Just remember that BMW's (except the F650 I think) use dry clutches so the JASO MA issue is not relevant.

The viscosity stability, wear additives (ZDDP) and anti-acid "base" additives (basically a service interval issue) addressed in the various articles are interesting.

To keep it all simple, I just adopt the "manufacturers filter, semi-synth "branded" JASO MA oil, change frequently" overkill strategy.

I would not recommend car oil for a bike. There are people who have tried this and found all sorts of problems. If you want to read about their experiences and a very good thread on this subject, it's on the Firestorm forum.

This is a great thread with loads of input and experiences. It's worth a good look.
