For starters, this is the EXACT problem my boyfriend had!

It was wet through on the road just driving down the main road, somebody infront slammed their breaks on for no reason whatsoever so obviously my boyfriend had to just throw his bike on road otherwise he wouldn't of gone over the car. So he dropped his bike and the bike skidded down the road which then clipped the persons bumped and unclipped it out of place (which could of been repaired within 2 minutes)
His bike was mangled, his sife and front fairings were binned, his forks were bent and the radiator was screwed.

As this went through insurance, the persons in the car claimed whiplash, car repairs - almost everything.
YET my boyfriend had to pay out.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me because slamming your breaks on in front and knowing fair well theres a bike behind you is a stupid if you ask me.

Whatever happened the police will just say you were too close behind.

Also, he'd probably have had more luck staying upright and turning slightly as he braked, but thats hindsight for you.

Sorry, but if a kid/dog/deer runs out in front of me in my car I'm going to slam on the brakes, no matter who is following me. The person following owes me a duty of care to ride/drive accordingly and be able to stop.

It was probably an accident management company inflating that claim but that's the way it works now, right or wrong. Making it even more important to keep your distance.

But there was no obstruction on the road, therefore they slammed on for no reason whatsoever. If there was a problem they could of indicated to the side of the road.

You're supposed to be riding/driving in a way that accounts for someone slamming on the brakes for no reason or for a reason you may not have seen.

I've gone into the back of enough people to know that.

At least he did the recent thing and threw his bike on floor, after all he was at a distance. But i t still doesn't account for them claiming whiplash when the bike just slipped the bumped. It's out of order.

I must admit though some bikers don't keep their distance.

You know the shiny metal and plastic side of the bike slows it a lot faster than the wheels and brakes.

I wasnt there but its almost always better to stay on unless at extreme impact speed.

Hmm I see your point, but I'd rather have been sliding down the road, than be on a extremely wet road and slamming your brakes on.

Well, if you slam your brakes on chances are you'll wind up sliding down the road after that anyway but if you manage to avoid that you can stop quicker and with more directional control.

I'm not trying to get at your BF or suggest my spur of the monet decision sare any better (They're probably worse) but the law on going into the back of someone is pretty black and white for a reason.
