Well, that's sold me. I can get caught twice for the small plate for every camera that catches me and still break even.
Of course, you can get in deep sh*t if you keep getting caught for a plate.
The police round here have actually started to enforce the law fully now regarding plates (providing they nick you in the first place)

* 1st time - warning or nick & fine & / or points

* 2nd time - nick & fine & points

* 3rd time - as above but they will also confiscate your plate - thereby forcing you into the aggro of contacting DVLA to get your bike OR car re-registered with a 'Q' plate thus losing you about 70% of any re-sale value

This applies to any 'non-standard' plate - size, style of lettering etc.

Sorry have to dissagree....

the only time a vehicle can ever go on q plates if substantial chabges have taken place to the vehicle... they take ur plate so u have to go straight home and buy another one....

I dont think they can give points for number plates any way....

They can't do that. number plates are not an endorsable offence. YET!!!

As said Q plates only apply to seriously damaged vehicles, if they confiscate the plate you still have the V5 so its a case of going to get another plate made. They want proper size obviously but another single liner will do

THE LAW
The law states that,

You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).
Offences may result in any or all of the following:

A fine of up to £1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN That says WITHDRAWN not "take your plate so you have to buy a new one".
The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test
Full details of the requirements are included in The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001

Taken from http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regm...quirements.htm

Hope that helps

Sean

i`ve had a £ 30 quid tug

next time its a £ 30 and after that you are classed as repeat and it goes to court "possibly " then you will get a fine of a more substantial nature

so ive got one more tug to my reckoning befree i do somthing about it

alot really does depend on the copper on the day and how you are with them and how they are with bikes really

nuff said

and as stated before the only reason they want you to have a proper plate is so the speed cameras can catch you and read your plate

hmmm, i was thinking about silver lettering on a black plate, my bike being silver, thought it would look quite cool. like the middle picture here:
http://www.malplates.co.uk/legclass.html

any ideas if that's any naughtier in the eyes of the law than a small plate with black on yellow?

Yes, very, you can't have black & silver plates on vehicles unless they were first registered years ago, about '71 I think, but I may be wrong.

I reckon it would be a certain tug, even by the easy going London plod....

you can have black plates if the vehicle was MADE before 01/01/1972.
if it was registered today, (not having been registered previously) you could technically still have a black 'uns.
