I recently done the A22 to Eastbourne from Godstone roundabout.
A little slow for the first 10 miles through east Grinstead but after that WOW.

Extremley wide A roads to the point there would be no problem turning them into dual carrage way if they wanted. It goes though the ashdown forest with loads of scenery and views and plenty of lay bys for leg stretching and loo breaks.

The roads are fast even with the illumination signs saying SLOW 60 !!!
They are pretty straight with a few sweeping bends and plenty of other bikes to see on the way.

When you get to Eastbourne you then have the choice of following the coast road either west to beechy head and brighton or east to bexhill and hastings.

Possibly good ride out route aswell. GIVE IT A GO

It is about 40 miles one thing that did baffle me the road signage said Eastbourne 30 miles then the next one 32 miles and this carried on for about four miles

i thought the A22 was a good road, but its nothing compared with;

a21 (tumbridge wells)
a26
a267 down into eastbourne where it joins the A22 at halisham.

try it, the a267 is mucho mucho better than the A22.
