Thats still a nice distance though - when its cold and on your way home 5-6 miles is nice - its that last 2-3 that I dont like! Still enjoy it though even though most people at work think I am mad for cycling that far to work and back

Had to cycle home last night in the pitch black with only a small torch (the batteries were almost flat). Cycling down unlight cycle lanes in woodland is quite interesting in the dark... nearly rode into a gate and some bollards. Trip to Halfords for some lights I think today

Some of the new led type lights are really good these days, especially if you're cycling in complete darkness.
Better than the ever ready lights I had to use when I was a boy.

Mind you some of these lights cost a seroius amount of wonga

Halfords dont sell anything half decent thats goign to work on unlit country roads.. have a look at

They're doing IIRC 20% off lights under £100 at the mo. I've got the Cateye EL610 Single Shot Plus ( 2 x 1watt LED ) its pretty good its been good enough to see by on the dark unlit country lanes I ride on.

I don't really want to go to Halfords but it's the only choice I have since I'm popping out at lunch to get them...

Might buy some from Halfords then drop some hints for christmas presents for some really good ones...

Alot of people on the cycle forums are using these, you can get a bike mount for it and its supposed to give off a good light and a good beam...

This is my good bike



Its tucked up indoors at the moment and I'm using my winter hack to get to work a 20 Year Old Raleigh Hybrid with mudguards, I havent got a pic of it, but think retro paint scheme and 501 tubing and you'll get the idea. Rides quite nice though.

My last job I would cycle 18 miles a day loved it, just need to find a cycle route now as changed job!
