Re: Headlight Upgrade
I just fitted an H4 Hi/lo HID kit to my K9 SV650 Sport. Had to extend the power lead to battery since it was a bit short. I managed to tuck all the cables and ballasts inside the front fairing.
Light is considerably brighter, especially high beam. Haven't been flashed yet by other road users so i'm assuming the beam trajectory is correct. Problem: I grounded the two negative leads to a bolt on my clutch lever which causes the lights to flicker whenever I touch the clutch lever/change gear. Sometimes, ALL my lights cut out and have to restart the bike. I'll need to find a better grounding point on the main frame, otherwise it's gunna be a pain in the ass. |

Re: Headlight Upgrade
Yeah ground directly to the frame or front subframe, grounding anything to the bars/front end is always dodgy because you can't guarantee conductivity through the head bearings.

Re: Headlight Upgrade
I have been told... that if yo go to HIDS4U and at the payment page enter "strathy" without the inverted commas into the discount code box, the kits become even better value for money!

Re: Headlight Upgrade
My k1 half faired has 'imported' lights, ie the beam sweeps the wrong way, dipped beam is the clutch side bulb with a lens and full beam is the throttle side bulb, is this still the same set up as a normal curvy? Don't wana buy an HID kit if it runs both bulbs all the time! Not sure how curvy lights are meant to work! Haha

Re: Headlight Upgrade
No that's not normal, well not normal for the UK anyway, UK curvy 'S' models light both bulbs on dip and both on main.
If you replace the bulbs though it would work exactly the same, you'd have to change the wiring to make a difference. Druid

Re: Headlight Upgrade
Depends on which k3 you have!

Re: Headlight Upgrade
Do any of these newer HID bulbs fit the naked headlight shell? IIRC the earlier ones were too long to go into a naked headlight?
