Riding fast and making progress are two different things, I had a chat with the crew of a camera van recently and it was interesting hearing their side of things. These guys said that their camera was set up so that they could photograph riders who were riding stupidly and thus it was manually activated. Speed wise they allowed ten percent plus two. So for a thirty limit, the bike could be moving at thirty five. However you need a really accurate speedo to get away with that one.

For me, one of the great joys of the SV is that it is such an exciting bike to ride at low speed. Riding along doing thirty on the other half's bike is dull and uninspiring, doing it on mine is wonderful and I can feel the road through the bars making the ride fun.

I can think of some things that can be exciting even when going slow.

Clearly you've never experienced such a thing. You wife/girlfriend should practice more

The options as I see them:

- Slow down.
- Do a few track days and see if it reduces your desire to get your kicks on the road.
- Find roads which make it difficult to maintain the speed-limit due to the bendy bits.
- Get a slower bike which you can rag the nuts off and still be in the vicinity of the speed-limit.
- Get a much better job and pay someone to get you off the charges.

You might want to read this. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27774455
The proposed changes would see:

• The Level 1 fine maximum increase from £200 to £800. Offences which may be dealt with by a Level 1 fine include unauthorised cycle racing on public ways

• Level 2 increases from £500 to £2,000. Offences include driving a motor cycle without a protective helmet

• Level 3 increases from £1,000 to £4,000. Offences include the sale of alcohol to a drunk person or being drunk and disorderly in a public place

• Level 4 increases from £2,500 to £10,000. Offences include speeding on the motorway
