Re: Got my knee down at last
Was trying this today, for some reason feel more comfortable on the left knee. Found a nice bit of road and gave it a go a good few times, all I got was peg. Very annoying, if the peg is down the lean is right yes? just not hanging off enough?
Is there any way of adjusting the peg height without rear sets?

Re: Got my knee down at last
got a question too. If your further enough over to get the peg down then what is the cornering benefit of putting ya knee down? or isnt there one? If its just a case of hanging off a bit more but the angle of the bike doesnt change then what do you gain by it?
Just wondered |

Re: Got my knee down at last
It doesn't from what I've read as if you get your knee down before the peg you'd be more upright and would be going slower?

Re: Got my knee down at last
I've heard there's a centre of gravity benefit to hanging off, but I'm not sure - I certainly don't notice it. It does feel more comfortable cornering hard when I'm hanging off though.
One thing I am sure racers use it for is to gauge how much lean angle they have left. This could be used to lean further through a corner, or to help get maximum lean throughout the whole corner, etc. Re: getting the peg down I think you're meant to be careful doing that, I've heard stories that it can dig in and throw you off. |

Re the CoG benefit, I should clarify I probably don't notice it because I'm not good enough to notice it, even if it is true.

Re: Got my knee down at last
Racers, I believe, use it as a marker to let them know how much further they have left go before the tyre lets go. i have only achieved it on track, never done it on the road. Just to show that you dont have to get your knee down to be good, or fast, this is a friend of ours that is 2nd in the Triumph Triple Challenge this year. He took 2 first places at Oulton Park last weekend

Re: Got my knee down at last
If you have to make a sudden lean, because you over cooked the corner, the peg does dig in and the rear starts to slip out, which only resulted in a fish tail last time thankfully..
I hang off like a monkey/ape/gibbon, don't feel comfortable staying put on the bike. I get KD alot on the roads I know, not so much on roads I don't know.. Feels more stable, which is the main thing, after corner speed. It also lets me carry more corner speed according to YC.. They won't let me on a track though |

Re: Got my knee down at last
My understanding was you hang of whilst cornering so that the bike is more upright, therefore capable of cornering quicker with a bigger contact patch of rubber on the ground.......was told this by a no limits instructor.

Re: Got my knee down at last
Cool. That makes more sense, i lean off more so the bike doesn't have to. Cracking pics of getting it properly leant over as well! Does show ya dont need KD then. Will keep on practicing

Re: Got my knee down at last
If you're going in a straight line, and you apply no pressure to the bars, but hang off one side, you notice the bike stays upright, but it also moves in the direction you're leaning off. Best way to figure it out for you'reself, even though you will look like a absolute idiot
Not that hanging off like a monkey doesn't make me look that already! |
