Nope, havn't had a chance to head out to the garage and have a look, have been doing some work for University.

Gonna go have a look in a minute.

One thing though, with the side stand cut off switch, what am I looking for?

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that the side stand switch wouldn't prevent the bike starting in neutral. Assuming the neutral light operates correctly (meaning that particular switch is OK) does that not rule out the side stand switch?

The clutch switch is easy enough to check - just bridge the two connections on the female connector with a suitable piece of wire. If the bike starts, the switch or possibly something in the lever mechanism, is the problem.

Just did that, took the connector off and stuck a piece of wire in there and it started fine.

Thanks.

Now, does anybody know if this means I will need to replace the whole clutch mechanism? If not then anybody know what I need to do to get it working normally again.

Thanks.

Good stuff!

If it was me I'd want to take that clutch lever off and check it, and its mount, for damage. If you've got a Haynes manual or similar then go and have a look. If not, and you need some guidance, come back here.

If it turns out that the lever is OK but the switch is goosed then you've got two choices. Either get a replacement or permanently bypass the clutch switch by cutting off the connector and joining the two wires.

If you bypass it then you will no longer need to pull the clutch in to start and you run the risk of starting your bike in gear. The consequences of that range from mild embarrassment to grisly death so I'll leave that up to you.

I have got a haynes manual for the bike so I will take it all apart tomorrow, give it a proper clean, and try and figure out exactly what is damaged.

Thanks for the help.

Hard wire the clutch switch. One of my Svs lost its clutch switch years ago(about 7 to be precise), due to this problem. The only thing you need to remember is it cancels the safety doodar, no need to pull in the clutch lever to start the bike.
Although, I don't think its ever been started in gear as in TAmSVs description.

For a curvy the part number is 37560-38A00 £13.60 plus VAT or their abouts. or a bit cheaper using the ebay link I posted earlier. Is it worth the potential grief? just make up a patch lead while on order and fit it when it arrives, assuming it doesn't just need a whack.

Just FYI the oil light is to warn you of a lack of oil pressure... and it's perfectly normal that there is no oil pressure when the engine isn't turning.
