Thnakyou for the info, so basically, they're only good if it doesn't cost the earth to refurb this one, apart from the Pentax A lens. hmmm roll on next month when the bonus comes in from work then!
I do quite like this little quirky camera, I miss having 'actual photos' sometimes. Perhaps its worth popping into town to the local camera shop which has been there for years and find out how much it will cost to get it back to condition again.
Chances are the lenses are ok. Look through them towards a light source. If they seem clear with no clouding and no visible fluid on the aperture blades and if the aperture blades turn open and close as you turn aperture ring I would not bother getting them returned.
Open the camera back door and touch the light seal that runs along the edges. If they are gooey/sticky they are needing reacement they usually are on such an old camera and if you google for light seals for that model there should be free advice on how to change em with very cheap kits on eBay. The light seals do just that and seal out light which would of course mess up the look of the pics if it gets in.

You got me thinking about my early camera equipment now! Started off with a Ricoh KR10 and a bunch of lenses while I did my photo course a school. Eventually part exed the body and then sold everything in favour of a small digital camera. Years later was missing slr days so got Pentax dslr. Starte to buy lenses cheap on eBay I originally had as they worked on the Pentax and so I eventually found a perfect Ricoh KR10 on eBay for peanuts. Got all the same gear I used to have now and love the feel of the all metal heavy thing but rarely comes out to play.
A decent Pentax lens will always be in demand. The beauty of the system is how they allow you to use any of the old lenses on dslr. The Pentax DSLR's have a setting that won't let the camera take a pic if it is not if focus so it's easy to use as you just keep finger on trigger and turn lens barrel and as soon as it senses focus it will allow the shutter to fire.
Sorry to go on and on. Photography has been a passion for me for 30 years and for many more I hope
If you can scan a pic that the MX has taken I may be able to pinpoint what it needs doing as these cameras are not hard to maintain.
