Re: Books.
Duly noted- I am a beginner though Once I've got the grasp of this I might be able to find more advanced, but it looks like a decent bit of light reading. Apart from being very interested and keen to know about this stuff, I'm sure it'll look better if I have at least a basic understanding of how an engine works before starting my apprenticeship.. I can do maintenance and stuff already, I just haven't been inside an engine.

Re: Books.
I would suggest you start by using your internet for more than the ORG.
Do a little bit of research, by doing it yourself you tend to recall it. and you can find the stuff the books wont tell you. Nice dynamic piccies etc. Therefore Sean your homework for tonight is:- There are two basic types of motorcycle engine. 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Why are they called these names and define the strokes. I then suggest the org en mass post a research question for you each night. Ideally structured to build on what you have discovered previously

Re: Books.
Got a question or two in the pipe line. I could dig out my Uni thermodynamic lecture notes on the internal combustion engine in a couple of weeks when you've advanced a little!

Re: Books.
Oh that is cruel, start with volumetric analysis of exhaust gases, calorific values of fuel, energy output etc and calculate efficiency etc. even gas engines with simple PV plots. Takes me back 30 years
