Glad you're not filing out an ins. claim now and wondering how to get home.
But you've probably just proved that unless you personally are within earshot of your alarm, it's not worth it.

Admittedly at home (or less likely at work) you may well be, and at £30 go ahead anyway. But you're right, probably an uncroppable chain (almax) is the only way to go.

Hi Baph

What type of van was it? Worth knowing bike thieves in the area. (Dodgy place, Denbigh! )

Might be worth going down to A&D see if they've had a van hanging around. They've been done a couple of times, despite all the big iron bars blocking windows / doors etc. They have CC TV now so might have something?

Blimey, that is lucky.

Thieving scum. Shame you didn't manage to get them with the DAT drive or something even more damaging, but then I suppose if you did the would be after you more than the thieves.

...those scaffolding poles could have been round your head

I always fret that the bike mightn't be there when I get back - alas there are no public ground anchors in Shrewsbury.

Stu, unless I'm somewhere unusual, my bike is ALWAYS parked within earshot (or at home and I'm not - but then it's locked away in the garage). But yes, I'll be looking into a decent length chain today.

Luckypants, just FYI, I was parked in the car park half way up vale street (where me & the red Bandit always park). All I really saw of the van was literally that it was a white transit, fairly old ish. It didn't look clean enough to be a hire van from memory. Don't remember any signs on the sides etc. I've asked the lads that live locally (eg, the estate top of Denbigh) to ask the more undesirable folks they know if they know anything about any bikes going missing recently.

I also need to call into A&D later this week anyhow, so I'll mention it to them whilst I'm there (I cheesed a bolt on the SV ). Didn't actually think of mentionning it to them, but cheers for the pointer

I seriously doubt anything will come of it, but you never know.

Ed, yes, the scaffolding poles may of ended up around my head, but at the time, with the adrenaline (mumstoy - sorry need2ride) that was the last thing going through my head. My reaction was like VB's would be, but I'm glad traffic was pretty bad, because that way I didn't end up with a charge of defending my property - aka ABH/GBH.

To lift the bike more easily. 2 lengths of short pole through the wheels, one bloke holding each pole on either side. Makes moving the bike into the back of a van a lot easier when there's a disc lock or chain (that's not chained to anything) stopping the wheels moving.

Almost certainy a stolen van anyway, they prefer the refrigerated ones as they are insulated and you can't hear the alarm blearing off inside as they scarper.

So disk locks aren't much use and a chain is only any good if locked to something solid. Thats depressing...
