Agreed, but I don't think that the forum is mature enough for that. Plenty of threads starting "Idiot motorist tried to kill me" degenerating to toe sliders down the length of a car, but not a lot of "What could I have done to avoid a situation?"

The roadside lectures sound bizarre. In these parts a cop doesn't need a reason of any sort to stop a motorist (although they usually offer one in the form of a RBT, licence, reg or roadworthy check), but they do need a very good reason to detain a motorist any longer than absolutely necessary.

Depends how they are done. Random stops just pulling you in at the side of the road I dont think will. Especially if the advice is "wear a hi viz" and not alot else.

However

"I've been following you for a while and I noticed x,y or z about your riding, have you thought about rider training" and leading off from there, might be actually a good way of getting their point across.

Be better just to put more traffic officers out there and start pulling the nuggets off the road who drive poorly / dangerously, rather than just targeting motorcyclists as a group though I feel...

Can't see the big issue tbh.

POlice pull you over, have a chat about road safety, interupt your day slightly, carry on as normal.

Can't see the big hassle if your doing nothing wrong.

I was stopped by these gents last year with my small plate, race can and dark visor.

They noticed them all, but said nothing except that they will "not make further comment" on the dark visor as it was a very bright day.

They seemed generally interested in my safety and not being silly about my bike's mods. Gave me some hand outs, recited some stats and I was on my way.

Refreshed in the knowledge that biking on the road is dangerous, and that playtime should be left to the track?

Never a bad reminder really is it. Just like when you see a biker down, you always slow up a bit as its a reminder what can happen.

I'm doing nothing wrong, that's the bloody point!
Stop me if I'm committing an offence, stop me if you think I'm committing an offence but don't stop me just because you want to educate me.

If I want educating I will present my self at one of the many, many places that offer that service and ask for it. If, on the other hand, I want to exercise my freedom of the highway in a lawful manner then that's what I should be able to do.

Do they sit in offices coming up with ideas to drive a wedge between the police and the public? Sheesh.

lets be honest it isnt a bad thing, abite i dont think it will achive much, now if they pulled you over and offered you a free proper day of training instead of a 10 minute chat, that would be a good use of time and resorces imho
if i got pulled over i wouldnt mind or be offended ,i would just ask what they thought they were honestly acheiving, cos as stated before most of the safety issues for bikers is beyond my control
i do think its good that they are trying to educate more bikers i just think they are doing it in the wrong way, but points for effort

If they are going to hold up traffic on the highway for no reason they should do it to all traffic not just bikes. But that would inconvenience too many people so they hit on a minority instead.
Imagine the hooha if they just stopped black people.
