All sounds very good. HOWEVER, can we also get a group announcement at the top of the section with instructions on how to do it so everyone uses the same format etc and notation. I don't know how to create custom maps. If you do kniterider, maybe you could write a bit of blurb for Bigape to sticky to help us plebs who aren't googlemap literate!

guess we can talk about this tonight.

Seperate map now added, see signature. To be honest I am not sure how Gmonsta created his googe map.

Gmonsta - any chance you could write us some brief instructions on how you created that route map?

Sure... correct me if you find an easier way.

Click on here to sign up or log in to Google Maps

From the log in screen there are tabs on the left.
  • Click on My Maps
  • Click on Create New
  • Change the Title & Description to as needed
  • On the Map zoom into the starting point
You have 4 icons at the top of the map used for editing:
  • The hand is for moving the map.
  • The placemark (upside down teardrop) is for adding points on the map.
  • The zigzag line is for adding lines on the map to outline routes.
  • The area icon is used for marking an entire area.
Some editing tips:
  • I find its easier to move the map about by using the NSWE arrows at the top left (above the zoom).
  • When adding lines you can still zoom and move the map using the NSWE arrows and Zoom without finishing a line - this allows you to move the map about to choose the correct path to follow.
  • Once added, the paths, placemark and areas can be edited - just click on it and click edit. You can change colours, icons, add names and descriptions etc.
  • Its tricky but if you choose the wrong path with the line you can click on it and then move the line by dragging it at the point you wish. If you right click you can add/subtract points on the line.
So now you are done:
  • Click Save to save your map.
  • On the top right there is the text - Link to page - click on this to get the URL for your map. You can then copy and paste this link into the forum for others to see your creation.

Also, now that we have the instructions on how to create these maps. I was thinking that we have one sticky thread with a new link to each of the created maps. So each route is created on a separate map. Is this possible Or are we limited to the amount of maps we can create

It would then take the format of something like this:

Route 1, xx miles A roads and B roads submitted by Gmonsta here

I would then use the "here" to link it to a thread by Gmonsta which contained a description of the route and a link to the map. Other people once they have tried the route could add comments to that particular thread.

Sound OK This is assuming we have no restrictions to the map thing.

No restictions on the number of maps as far as I can tell.

Guess this would mean we dont need the overall map showing all the routes together. That makes my life much simpler.

Another good route provided by Ogden (the Cotswold tour) takes around 5hrs.

The FOT:

A413 from Aylesbury to Buckingham
A421/A4221 to Bicester
A41/B4011 to Thame

Then either A418/A329/A4074 to Fox's Diner, or B4012 to the England's Rose at Postcombe.

Speed limits are, of course, be observed at all times.
