Bolt a metal plate to the wall or floor and weld it!

How hard is it to weld (in a functional, rather than attractive/neat) manner? I know it's not the same, but I can already solder and braze to a half-decent standard. Also, isn't welding it over the bolted plate irreversible? What if I move house (which I might well in the not too distant future)?

I've just come back from rigging my garage with some "entertaining" theft prevention devices, should they come back before I can properly beef up security. The other tools have all been moved into the house as a precaution anyway.

Apologies to piggyback on this thread but seeing as it's relevant I thought I'd not start a new one...

Is having a separate set of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 the best way forward or are there adaptors available? You see my own set is mixed - sockets up to 13mm are 1/4 in and have their own ratchet, sockets 14mm and over are 1/2 in and have their own ratchet as well.

Currently I need to get a 12mm stuck engine mounting bolt out on my DR, but that socket only fits on the piddly little 1/4 ratchet. I can't get enough force through such a tiny tool. I have borrowed an impact driver for the task, but it has a 1/2 in drive. Is my solution to:

a) buy a duplicate rail of the smaller sockets but fitting a 1/2 in drive rather than 1/4 in?
b) buy an adaptor to make a 1/4 socket fit on a 1/2 drive?

Much obliged and sorry for the hijack! Will check on the brand of my own sockets to report back with something on topic

Not that hard to weld functionally but it wont look pretty. When you come to move you'll just need to grind the welds off.

What sort of theft prevention have ya got going on?

Nothing illegal/particularly nasty, just very secure, but I'd rather not go into specifics on a public forum- I'm well paranoid about my garage security at the moment, I don't even think I'll post pics when I'm done.

Just heard back from the insurers today, they're happy to replace all tools with the same brand, like for like and have seen sense and are replacing my several seperate rails of varying drives with 2 comprehensive halfords pro seperate sets; one 3/8 drive and one 1/2 drive. It should cover pretty much all my sockets, but they are happy to provide me with any that are not covered (which I can only really check once I have them in my possession).
