Wow! Thats really cool. How much did you say you paid for the bike? I'd like a cheapo CB500, do most schools flog them cheap? Be a great winterbike / track-hack I remember a few years ago (maybe 10?) that a guy from the superbike magazine competed in the CB500 cup; from what he wrote, it was a right laugh! Even when a then-very-young Leon Haslam came along and beat them all at donington

It was up in the shop at £995, but he had another in the back that I was supposed to buy, but his son decided he wanted it, so got the 1st one for £500.... Bargain
I have just picked up the smashed one from Standish, this has cost me £120 and ended up with a major result.
It has stainless downpipes & I also got a rear caliper off a 2002 machine (after a bit of bartering). I will post a pic up shortly once I have give myself a hernia getting it out of the van

It's surprising just how much weight you can junk from a standard road bike and still keep it running. So far my CBR has lost about 23 pounds and the road wiring loom is still in, and so is the headlight. The Akrapovic exhaust that's fitted weighs in at 11 pounds lighter than standard, so my bike is so far about 35 pounds lighter, with more to go.

Next step is race bodywork, that'll save another 7 or 8 pounds.

I'm gagging to get a daytime MOT on it too, just to see how many times I get pulled for having no lights whatsoever.

Couple of updated pics.

Brembo front caliper fitted.

My new paddock stands (early Christmas pressie off the kids ). I have tidied up all of the wiring that used to sit in the headlight bezel, this now lives under the fuel tank and also cut off the rear footpegs.

Bridgestone Bt090 Tyres fitted.

All that needs to be done now is remove the OE stands & she is ready for the track.I have hit a major problem with the rear wheel, no one seems to have any 2nd hand rear brake discs, so I am going to run with the drum brake for a couple of track days until I can afford a new disc (£95 + vat ) and the footrest hanger & brake lever are different on the later models, so need to find one of them. Never mind it will come good sooner or later.

I was looking for a 400, but thought the 500 might be a little bit more fun (plus it's a twin). I've ridden my son's CBR600 & I keep looking for 7th & 8th gear, so a high revving 400 was'nt for me. Looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow, I'm not so sure

Bike looks good ' it's getting there.

You may want to change:

Front brake hose for a braided one ( keep the original rear one on though )
Front brake fluid for dot 5.1 higher boiling point.
Front fork oil , 10w with i think a 192mm air gap ( speak to Dave)
Remove center stand , other wise you'll grind it out or worse it'll dig in and flip you off.
Remove original fuel filter located in tank on fuel tap because they are prone to getting blocked, fit an in line one on.

Tyre pressures , i use 30 Front 32 Rear , but it's up to you on how you feel on the bike.

Have fun

Cheers Coggers.
Stand has gone I will sort out the other bits & bobs after tomorrow. If it's wet it will hopefully give me some feedback into how it feels, plus it should show any problems.

Done my track day & it has pulled a couple of little problems. The clutch is slipping in 5th & 6th, so am going to dump the oil & use some better quality stuff.
1st session was a bit scary, went out with std pressures in new tyres, so scared me to death, lowered them a little & felt a bit better. I will try upping them on the next one to see if that makes a difference.
Other than that it was a good day.
