Cracking idea.

Also what about getting a bike, sticking it on some springy hinges so it can rock from side to side to practice body position. Obviously harder than actual KD as there's no centrifugal forces to help you, but could help.

Blue, rather than setting up a school straight off the bat why don't you do a bit of instructing for CSS? You get the industry contacts and the marketing/business experience on top. I know you were keen to teach (ok, Primary kids not the same as would be track demons) but you might be able to get the best of both worlds? The only trouble is you may have to dye your hair white and wear it spikey a la Andy Ibbott

Nice idea. Something to start on Saturdays perhaps and see how it grows. Theres a place in Chobham with a big Skid Pan (I think thats what you call it) that IAM run cornering technique courses and its used for first time Porsche owners to see how the car handles. Its part of Quintecs test tracks. You need the various instructors qualifications, insurance etc to book onto the pan, but it would be ideal to teach something like this and a good starting point.

Perhaps you also want to consider how long it would take to hit the saturation limits for the area and possibly consider offering more than just a knee down school. ??

Ok, to answer a few questions.

Although it might make some of the stuff more straightforward, you have to watch 'tagging onto' an existing business as you then start having to abide by THEIR rules and they take a bite!!

If I am going to make this financially viable, and of interest to me, I need to have total control ...

Oh and it is spelt QinetiQ (not Quintec)!! I should know I work for QinetiQ (until the end of the month (I can pull back out of leaving right up to the end))!!

I'll do some internal digging about the Chobham site and its availability. But any big bit of tarmac would do. I was also considering trying to talk to the circuits to use their carparks the day before a TD ...

I'd need to flesh out the details, but first I need to see if there is a big enough market to make it viable!!

I like the idea of learning how to do it in a safe environment where you dont have to worry about traffic etc etc.

I've never managed it on the road, because not only is my body position wrong and I dont know how to put it right, but also because I'm way to worried about traffic and other road users. Also theres they fear of binning your bike.

But paying for instruction, not using your own bike and learning how to do it properly in a safe environment seems a really good way of doing it.

Top idea I think.

I think there could be something in this. Track days are ideal "safe" areas, but even these are a bit too daunting for many.

Get something like a Bandit 6, gear it down, and do wheelie school at the same time. Tape a six foot plunger to the rider's head and do "stoppie school" in perfect safety And you could always offer brazilians on the side

Personal injury/liability insurance is going to be the biggy. You might also find that you need to provide onsite medical which could add to costs.

If none of this comes off and you become a primary teacher after all - I SO WANT TO SEE YOUR CYCLING PROFICIENCY CLASS

I was intending to buy/use a midi-moto (about 1/2 size bike) and Phoenix as a starter for ten ... that way set-up costs are kept to a minimum. I already have equipment I can do the filming/teaching/analysing with ... I do need to look into liability insurance ... I am not sure if this would be covered by the land owner ..

The primary teacher thing has taken a back seat ... I looked into what I was likely to be able to 'earn' ...
