Maybe it is hyped out of all proportion, but possibly you're reading the protection of "many parts of the countryside" to be more than it is too. The article does not quantify exactly how much green laning this could actually affect.
By shutting one or two roads you're shutting access to the already tiny amount of countryside available to us by preventing any riding at all. Preventing people from riding on these few roads will result in :
1. Illegal riding everywhere
2. Concentrated riding on the few legal roads resulting in much greater damage.

I am ashamed to say it DID damage part of the field and it DID cover her in mud ...... all something that wouldnt have happened had she just nodded good morning and allowed me to enjoy my Sunday. as I allowed her.
'Damaging' a field is something I struggle to understand. What you can and can't do seems to depend entirely on the prerogative of the person who makes the rules.

Next time just get off, and $hit on the ground in front of them. They're not exempt from the law either.

My only point being in all this is that I WAS being considerate and law abidding, but then they STILL had to pipe up! Grrrr

I would normally be able to be very nice and smile it off, but just this time I kicked up. It is not a regular loss of temper or respect, I promise

On another point about all this, it seemed ironic that it was the actual FARMER warning us, and we were on his land! See they are not all bad!

Nuff said on my little experience

They should just put a banner up on the white cliffs of Dover saying

'BEWARE .... WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO HAVE FUN IN THIS COUNTRY'

Footpaths, bridleways, right-to-roam land, pedestrian town centres...

The green-lanes are very few in number anyway

Just get good enough now that you can outrun them! An off-road police chase, now that sounds fun

Be good, be VERY good. The lads who do this are all very experienced and get upset at people not stopping. It rarely goes well for the "subject being followed"

HTH!

Not many police off road bikes really is there though, seems that a ban just stretches them even further

Yep, agree with that Chris, there are less and less traffic cops in general these days. We have to loose 15 PC's by the 1st August and the motorcycle wing have no plans to take anyone on in the forseeable future.
Off road bike cops are even more rare.
