I drove a truck for a mate from Slough to Aberdeen and back the next day.
That way, you could ride the bike and end up just using one truck and reducing the risk of damage in transit.
Thought about this, but it just seems so much more sensible/logical to haul the bike rather than ride it. It would probably be safer too, rather than hundreds of boring miles on the motorway. I mean...what if it rains?

Which brings me to my next question.....do straps come with hired vans usually? We're talking about ratchet ones, yes?

Tie the front brake on and shove a few cushions between the bodywork and the side of the van- i take it the van will have railings so you can tie things down? Then you can use a few ties or ratchet straps if you have them, loop the tie around the rail a few times, then go up a couple of rails and tie it off up there, that way you don't lose any tension tying up the strap. Oh, and leave it in gear.

I haven't seen any that do, they're the kind of things that could get lost easily.

you'll have to ask. You can usually blag a few. Depends how you get the van from, sorry I can't remember which ones had straps.

So where/when you going?

Hmm, thanks everyone. I'll have to ask the hire companies when I speak with them. I'm also crap at using rope to do anything, a misspent youth rather than scouts for me I'm afraid

Stu, not sure if I'm going anywhere at the moment, but got a couple of things in the pipeline that could see me leaving the Massive...ask me in a fortnight, and in the meantime, watch this space...

when we collected my mates bike we hired a van for the day (bike had not mot tax etc), the van didnt come with straps just an empty van, we poped to the local argos and got the ratchet straps they sell, we put the bike to the left of the van and straped it to the side of the van and zip tied the front brake

did the job for a 250 mile drive home, and still had loads of room in the van
