Its definately worth shopping around, one of our new starters is just about to start the NEBOSH construction certificate and Faithful & Gould wanted ?2.5k for a 12 day course, which was abit of a joke, we eventualy found the 3 day intensive one for that price (I will find out where).

You can also pay ?275 and just do the exams on it as well, I'm sure you can do that with all NEBOSH courses, thats what we normally do.

I did my ISOH 'Managing Safely' course about 4 years ago...if memory serves it was a 5 day course costing about £600. It was OK, but very basic!

I've added COSHH assessors course to this ,and had one of the other members of our H&S committee attend a Fire Assessors course.

I intend to do the NEBOSH Diploma later this year - to brush up on and improve my knowledge and abilities. I'd suggest if you're getting it paid for take it - these types of courses/certificates/diplomas are always 'transportable' ,and even if you don;t have specifics ,it does show a general understanding and ability to learn!

i was told IOSH was only valid for 3 years unless you did NEBOSH before it expired- is that not right either?

Well, there is no expiry on the certificate on the wall in front of me......it could be that to become a member of The IOSH, you have to have completed the course in the past 3 years - never looked into it (already a member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI - formerly IQA) and now also Institute of Environmental Management and Appraisal (IEMA)). May look into Health and Safety memberships later in the year!
