Oh is that all, theres bigger ones that come creeping out of the baptism pit in my other halfs house.
Now if one of them came out of your jacket, you'd mistake it for a tirantula.......eeeeww

I would say that you found yourself there a common house spider, the problem with identifying a particular species is that it is rather hard even with the photos you have provided.
The most likely explanation is that you have a male spider looking for a mate, he does not look very large, a leg span of about an inch? Generally the males are the smaller and if you can see the pedipalps, they often have enlarged ends that are used to grip the female during mating. I trust that you have not recently return to the UK from foreign lands? One lad I knew brought a very dangerous spider back from somewhere hot in his sleeping bag. Fortunately the cold British winter slowed it down enough that we could catch it in a glass and study it before doing the kindest thing and euthanasing it. My last spider was a Honduran Curly Hair Tarantula and she was absolutely beautiful if a little bitey... I had her as a rescue because her previous owner was told by the landlord of her residence that she could not keep pets. Sadly that is how I lost her too. Damn Landlords and their irrational fears of poisonous pets... ![]() |

My dads firm gets containers from foreign parts, like the far east. There's some monstrous f###ers get caught in them. Weirdest day at work ever, killing 3.5inch spider with a shovel lol.
"A little bitey" Er just how poisonous are they?

![]() Ruby was quite small when she bit me for the first time and although it was not terribly painful, once that had worn off it itched like crazy for several days. Honduran Curly Haired Tarantulas are not massively poisonous, but can be very bad tempered see attached link. http://arachnophiliac.info/burrow/ca...albopilosa.htm As for Ruby, when ever I cleaned her out she would rear up exposing her inch long fangs and would be ready to bite. I was a little nervous of her when I had to handle her because I knew what she was like and I found the best method of moving her was to push her into her flower pot with a pencil and just lift out the whole pot. The other issue with them is the defensive measure they use to repel a predator, they rub their back legs over their abdomen and send out a dust of fine barbed hairs that can be very painful if they get in your eyes. The bite is mainly used to feeding. Unlike snakes, it is not possible to de-venom a spider because they need the venom to digest prey, both fascinating and revolting to watch as a Locust is impaled on the fangs, injected with venom and drained of juices. I used to have to feed the locusts special cereals to ensure that they contained enough minerals for Ruby because she would never eat her peas! ![]() |
