At first I though it was an up graded version of the GS500, but the salesman at the dealer actually said it is the replacement for the Katana which desperately needed a facelift.

Like always, the people at the Kawasaki forum criticizing everything that Suzuki does and thinking that every single bike Suzuki makes is to compete with their 650R. Not knowing the father of the 650R is the SV and that there is no need for any other model to compete with the 650R. The mayor critics is how outdated the new design it, the 1 piece seat and the tail light and how Suzuki is trying to make the front of every bike look like the GXR.

Well, I really liked the GSX650 and unless there is a new SV650 out by August, I think I will be jumping on a GSX650, I was very impressed by how comfy it felt, looks like a bike I could go out on a 2hr ride very comfy.

What do you guys think about this new bike ?
What was it that you saw?

To me it looks like an I4 SV full dressed, but with better ergos...

I wish that Suzuki would had design a unique tail light for this bike instead of reusing a tail light used before in the past.

Read the 650R critics here:

Some describe it as a dressed Bandit...

Others as the 650 version of the GS500.

The dealer called it the Katana replacement.

Just a new model for 2008 that looks good and feels good to sit on...

In person, the bike looks great, I loved it.

Also very important, the bike feels super comfy and the rear view mirrors are super wide for good rear view.

Smooth I4, FI, Comfy, good lucking, this bike is another homerun...

Are you in the US? Only that might explain why you are talking about the Faired Bandit like this. Its nothing new here (been out since last year I think) and to be honest, its not really radical in any way.

And do you work for IL4 Appreciation Society? Why would anyone come to an SV specific forum and try to convert everyone to a GSXF?

New 2008 or 2009 SV650 ?

I have personally been following this issue (or is it?) since suspected at last years 2007 UK NEC motorbike exhibition.

Is a new Suzuki SV650 planned for late 2008, 2009 or not?

Hot off the press as to speak today (30/07/200
my local Suzuki dealer was a bit coy to say the least about the possible launch of a new SV650.

I have been advised by Suzuki Uk that the SV650s is discontinued for the Uk as of July 2008 onwards (S model now removed from their Uk website - only Sport and naked model remains).

Local dealer as of today is still selling SV650s's but is fitting lower fairings and seat cowls free of charge for any customers ordering "Sport Models". This is because no official sport models are now available from Suzuki GB.

(anyone interested - take care - bikes will be marked as "s" models not "sport" as should be! (decals on rear seat cowl are different)

Regarding discounted prices on the last Sv650's available - it's worth shopping around - typical prices found as of today (30/07/200 are naked SV650's new for around the £3600 mark, SV650 sport for £3800.00, S model differing around £3800 to £4300. These are all on the road including 6 mths road tax and the current suzuki £400 cashback or dealer rebate promotion (make sure your dealer is giving you this - its a manufacturer incentive, not a dealer incentive!) All genuine Uk dealers are receiving this promotion and should pass on £400 savings to each and every Uk customer. Looks like suzuki dealers are getting beter discounts on the naked and sport models but less so on "s" old models!

All prices obtained were for UK bikes (no imports) on the road with 6 months excise duty tax.

Sources used to obtain price quotes:

MCN - official website

Google UK

MCN - weekly newspaper

Personal contact with local Suzuki Dealers:

1) Derbyshire
1) North Yorkshire
3) Major dealer for all popular brands G...... W......S.....

Suzuki SV650 - S - Sport - Naked - 650 - V Twin - Four Stroke - Accessories
- Cheapest Sv650 Insurance

** Anyone wanting a new SV650 - i would recommend buy one now to benefit from current manufacturer incentive. What will new 2008 / 2009 SV650 be like - who knows? the "raptor" theme is suggested but not assured, no press releases todate! dropped or improved ? only suzuki knows..... perhaps they may release later on at the Uk exhibitions... seems a bit late to myself! Anyone know different... let's hear it......

So I take it that the SV isnt being dumped because of Euro regs? Sounds like a new model is imminent then as Suzuki would never pass up the opportunity to sell their 2nd most popular bike (GSXR1000 being the most popular)

The current motor would not pass the future planned emissions laws (if they do go in effect).
