right basically got the side off, we managed to get her up and down the gears.
but when in second we have to gently push down on the lever and i springs it self back, which then lets us go up to 3rd gear etc. does this sound like the rod is bent meaning the selectors are not engaging straight meaning you have to push down slightly to get it in position again?? (if that makes any sense) |

Are you sure that the lever isn't just stuck and not returning properly.
I had a similar problem years ago. it was the the fact the the nylon bush in the gearlever which bears on the shaft wasn't lubed and it had to be knocked back down after each gear change. |

right ive check the lever etc and nothing no change
basically i can drop it down to 1st then up to 2nd but to go up into 3rd, once ive gone up into 2nd i have to push the lever ever so slightly down and you can hear a little click (as if it resets it self) the i can go up into 4th 5th 6th so iam not sure what happening its going up and down but why do i have to push down first to go past 2nd gear. |

This is possibly a silly question and you've perhaps already thought of it, but have you checked that the left footpeg with the gear lever on is secure and the hanger is on tight?
After an off and straigtening out the linkage rod last year, I spotted that mine was loose (the footpeg was a little wobbly)- causing just these symptoms- would go up to 2nd, but took an effort to get into third, and then was a nightmare to get back down from there to 1st. |
