Dam square is lovely, especially at night. Watch out for the dealers in the red light district and keep your cash stashed - lost of people about there at night and can get stuff nicked, a bit of a scrum.

One thing you MUST do - go on a canal boat tour. Fabulous way to see the city, and really informative tour guides- they are also dead cheap, and you see a totally different side of Amsterdam. The boats have big glass roofs so you can see everything.

Also, the Anne Frank museum - it's worth a look but I've been to Amsterdam loads and only went the first time because the queues were awful, so maybe early in the day for that one. It's a great city as it's so easy to walk everywhere or jump on a tram.
Oh, and buy a strip of tickets for the tram which lets you use them all day. Oh, and you know brown cafes let you smoke grass etc, and bars are for booze - the twain don't meet. Have a great time, best people in the world.

I liked the Anne Frank museum. I'm not a history buff or anything but it is quite interesting. The Heineken brewery trip is meant to be good but it was closed when I was last there for refurbishment.

You have to have a look around the red light district really just to see what it's like. It's a bit of an odd city as it goes from being picturesque and quiet to being touristy and full of ladies of the night. A great place though.

Anne Frank Huis is worth a look. A little depressing though (O RLY??).

Nemo - the museum of science near the harbour is AMAZIN. Lots of pressing buttons and exploring stuff. Well worth a look.

The Zoo - Amsterdam has an INCREDIBLE zoo. I know you wouldn't normally go to a foreign city just for the zoo, but it is right in the centre and so much fun. You get to stroke the piggies in the petting zoo (and you can make them fall over by rubbing them under their front legs - woo!)

And then there is a place where you can get "coffee" near Spui square, called the Dampkring on Haarlemmerstraat. It's where some of the scenes from Ocean's 12 were filmed. Probably one of the best "cafes" in Amsterdam.

And +1 to the boat tour. Also, make sure you walk round the area by the Oude Kerk after about 11pm at night. Entertainment value, y'know.

Enjoy your trip, I am mucho jealous!

xx

Heinekkan (?sp) museum.
Sex museum, but a bit pants.
Go for a walk, sounds silly, but theres a lot of ground to cover.

And visit a coffeeshop, even if you don't smoke. Get some cake if your not into smoking. 2-3 slices of that and u'll soon be giggling away.
