But then it'll just get covered in muck or is that the one place where you'll actually keep the rat clean

Ive got some of this on my pillion seat, cheap and does the trick, but can be a pain to dry out if it gets wet.

From having the better half on the back of the bike every morning and evening, what we have learned is
  • Get her to support herself on the front of the tank during braking
  • Get her to grip with her knees when accelerating
  • I prefer her to hold onto me instead of the grab rail as we tend to move together in corners (and she acts as a great heater during winter )
  • Smoother riding means less banging of helmets together
  • Punching of the ribs usually means slow down
  • If she complains of being cold tell her, through gritted teeth, you're taking the brunt of it

Other than that have fun, and make sure you whack the preload up on the rear suspension as it helps with the balance of the bike during corners/accelerating.

triboseat works very well.

only problem i had with pillion anticipating stuff is when they get a little over zealous and the bike starts to tip in before you even thought about it...

A good pillion won't slide around. Some of my female pillions do, but I have had plenty that don't, and indeed when I go pillion on Phill's bike, I don't slide around. Just grip with the knees, and hold on to the grab rail. Anticipate the bikes actions too.

Never taken a pillion, and never want to, so I have Gladys, my silent passenger thats bungee'd to the rear. He don't slide around and has always got a smile on his face.......

...not helping am I?

i went pilion once, the only thing i could grip with my knees was my helmet. i felt like i was sitting on one of those little clown bikes!

maybe try some of the 'love handle' things. ive heard some people it says it helps.

+1 to everything, all of the the comments are spot on i think. I have had only ever had pillion passangers that are riders theirself and therefor know when to hold on and grip with their legs.... I am not looking forward to carrying the girls from work that are desperate to have a ride... I would rather them hold on to me than the grab rail but i am a little on the large side so they can get their hands round!
