A lot of people, particularly fair weather bikers, are astounded at the conditions I go out in. Good quality waterproof kit, which is actually still 100% waterproof after a couple of hours in torential rain, as opposed to the "keeps the drizzle off for half an hour" nonsense some clothing manufacturers try to pass off as wet weather gear makes almost anything bearable, add in some heated clothing and nothing short of ice is a problem and even then only from a bike control POV.

Did about 500 miles flat out on the peages from Tonnay Boutonne to Calais last year, 3 of us. One FZ6, me and the Raptor behind us, FZ6 led the way back( I took us down there but it was dry!) I struggled, but the Raptor had to sit at the back because it was too bloody loud and the plume from my tail end was gigantic
![]() Whenever we stopped I had to ring my leather jacket out, my fingers were like prunes, my jumper underneath was so wet I had two circles where my boobs were ![]() There were loads of pansy bikers hiding under bridges but we kept going, geared up to the hilt with tailpack, tankbags and panniers, we had a B&B waiting for us in Peuplingues outside Calais which took us 10 hrs through sideways rain and visibility .. well what visibility, it was so bad the raptor struggled to stay on two cylinders at times, but I had my nice invention covering the front plug. There was a giant thunderstorm over night, and we all climbed into soggy gear in the morning to be faced with some momentary sun sat waiting for the ferry at Calais, then it hit us at Dover and stayed for the entire journey from Dover to about half way home, to wo which by this time I'd kinda gotten used to it, and had switched off to the fact that I was soaked to the skin......guess who bought textiles and retired the leathers! It was certainly an experience that gave me some backbone, and rain don't particularly bother me any more, and I just plough on when on the motorway at pretty much the same speed as I always do ![]() I just don't do rain and dark, it freaks me out a lot, as it did when we got to Peuplingues and there were no lights on the motorway, tired cold, wet and hungry it played games with me, so its one thing I hate now, even to and from work in winter.....oh and I don't do snow either!

Sorry, too old and decrepit to enjoy riding in the wet. (Ok bath/shower
![]() the foolishness of youth left me a long time ago. I am proud to be a fair weather type. My new waterproofs of last year have been used twice. And some of you know how willing I was to show off my previous pair. Those have been passed to my nephew who would rather get wet than wear them

I ride in the rain... did a nice 90 miles in it last night. I dont really enjoy it though, mostly because of the cold hands. I need to get some new heated gloves asap! ha ha.
I do ride a fair bit slower in corners, on the local bypass especially, my wet confidence is shot up. I lost the front (a long time back) due to water and diesel so now I dont push it at all. I have noticed that when the weather is really heavy the cars drive much slower than I ride on the motorway. Most on the M1 were doing <50!!! ![]() |

It was damp this morning, and this weekend. Meant I couldn't get the work I wanted to do on the bike done. I really must sort something to cover the bikes in the winter so I can at least work on them.

Quick to erect/disassemble and unless it's driving rain, keeps it dry enough to do most mechanical work. |

I don't mind rain.
But i dislike hard rain + Dark roads where car headlights make that water turn into stars. But its water, is it really THAT bad??? I know i enjoy fishtailing the rear end in the wet ![]() |
