We got rescued by the Royal engineers in a Frog (CET) and 2 Warriors from the 1st Batt Coldstream Gds,
My co-driver was Capt David Green, the gards Padre, when we first got hijacked his first words were, "Quickly, give me a run down on how your gun works, just incase you get slotted !"
It was inbetween Gorni Vakuf and Vitez at a narrow very sharp bend on a steep down hill section called Bon Bon Corner. There was a blockade across the road, then 200 locals turned up behind us, then another 200 the otherside of the blockage.
In the convoy there was a fuel truck, alandrover and me in a 4 ton bedford MJ. all the locals wanted was fuel as it was winter time. unfortunatly the fuel truck was empty and going to the fuel depo in Vitez. All I had on bord was 40 pairs of Dirty Coveralls... They got nicked and my canvas got slashed with knives, machettes and swords.
When the engineers turned up they just smashed through the blockade and the two warriors took up possitions either end of the convoy and escorted us to Vitez. the road was closed for 4 days, so I had 4 days off. bonus.
