The 834 is a good model, we have a couple at work that have run solid for 2 years with up to 50 pc's attached and they've not had a problem like that. When we used to have some crappy belkin stuff they used to clam up and needed a factory reset every so often which fixed it. I do that about once a year on the netgears as routine maintenance, so maybe that helps, don't forget to make a note of the logon name and password before you reset it if you try it obviously!

I'm still using my 6 year old 11mbps wireless router, its great, my broadband has only just got to 10mbps on a good day.

But I would check the firmware levels, its always the first thing you should look at.

Well your need to download it, and they it will either have a little app that loads it to your router. Or in some cases once you have downloaded it to your PC, in the routers firmware menu you can select the file from your PC.

Just make sure you leave it well alone while its loading the new firmware as if you interrupt it you could stuff up the router, and then it can be a bit troublesome to get it back.

With netgear routers, go to thier web page>support, find your router, find the latest firmware for your routere, save it to, say, desktop. Then log onto your router, in there is a menu option to upgrade firmware. Click on this, locate the firmware update on your desktop and load away. Re-set your router and job done.

Same as mine. I've got the latest firmware downloaded already as I upgraded mine a while ago. If you cant find it on the netgear website PM me your email address and I'll mail it to you, Otherwise process is as Viney describes.

Also turn logging off - I have a V3 and it would only fall over if I was doing a LOT of traffic for a long time at once - which leads me to believe its a memory leak or something that gums it up.
