110 fine for 46 or 47 IIRC

Personally I find the acceleration perfectly fine. Lowering the gearing only means you can be a bit lazier with the gears in the real world. You don't actually get any more power, it just becomes more accessible. I prefer having to ride hard to go fast, because it means at slower speeds you feel like you're trying more! I've never found a public road safe enough to do over 110 on the SV though (a quicker bike would require less space of course though...). Note: motorways don't count .

on the opposite side of the scale, if you want to milemunch and have very very little wear on the chain(read never have to adjust it)
IIRC I have a 16t 98/99 gsxr 750 on the front and a standard 44(mines faired) A lot nicer for motorway riding. I'm adamant it makes for slightly better fuel consumption too Doesn't slog the guts out on long journeys. The wheels don't feel like they are going to fall off at high speed either.
I have a standard set up on the other and despise motorways on it.

just in case any of you were wondering what doing it the other way does

I did find with a 110 link chain, that's the naked chain length right?, and a 45 rear, that the swingarm adjusters were pretty much against the stop.

Thank you for all the answers to my question! I am going to fit it when I take my bike out again this spring, so I have quite some time to think

From what I understand, the standard rear sprocket is 44 teeth, and it's recommended to switch this to a 45/46 sprocket, and buy a longer chain?
How much will each tooth change the personality of the bike?

Isn't it better to change the front sprocket, if the chain and the sprockets are in good shape? Then you don't have to exchange the chain, am I right?
The most I've had is about 125 mph (on speedo), It was still pulling, I certanly do not need more speed then that
The long 1st gear is also a pain when I'm driving in traffic in the city, I think it's too long.

St0rmer66: What do you mean? Isn't the bike going to accelerate harder after the mod, assuming you do perfect shifts every time, and measure the 0-100mph time before and after? I thought it would.

Aye, as the 'N' has a longer swingarm.

I've tried a couple but I'm back on standard N gearing, on the basis that my bike has a clutch and a gearbox The 14 tooth front was good fun but I do enough motorway crusing for it to be a bit of a drawback. SV first is still pretty low as standard though. YMMV, my bike makes good power lower than most so that takes away some of the advantage of lower gearing, and at the end of the day it's also personal taste.

The typical SV-S won't rev out in top gear anyway so reducing the gearing slightly doesn't neccesarily hurt top speed, and frankly who cares?

Ok! I'm worried that going for 45 teeth is too little of a difference to bother.
I think I will go for a 46 teeth rear sprocket, and the standard 110 link chain, sounds that ok?
The bike has at least traveled 5500 miles on the old set of chain and sprockets, so you will maybe ask me to change it all, right?
Top speed of the sv-s stock is about 133 mph, right?
What will the top speed be after this mod?
I hope this will improve the acceleration in the area between 60-110 mph, where I miss something compared to bigger bikes

Top speed will not be affected IMO

46 would have a more noticeable fell, a quicker pick up.

+ 1, and it is 125.1mph on a stock Curvy.
