If not can someone recommend something which has everything needed for around about the same price.

Ta muchly.

My son bought the same kit about a year ago. The sockets aren't bad, the ratchets are ***t, the screwdrivers aren't up to much at all, pliers werent bad, so I would spend my money elsewhere. As someone said, the Pro stuff is really good quality, or Draper Expert stuff is the dogs danglies. Costs more, but is far superior stuff & carrys a lifetime warranty

I started with Kingcraft 1/2" socket set, ETC Industrial 1/4" sockets, a full set of secondhand Sidchrome combination spanners (bought a few at a timewhenever I could find them) and a Stanley screwdriver set back around 1982. I still had most of that until 18 months ago when my ute box was stolen - 75kg empty and bolted down so beats me how they got it <sighs>. All of the other bits and pieces were accumulated over time.

Secondhand shops, clearing sales (think farms, workshops etc going out of business) and deceased estates present great opportunities to pick up some high quality tools at a fraction of new prices if you can figure out what to look for.

Cheers

Think if I could turn back time (there's a song there somewhere) I'd have gone for 6sided (AF?) Sockets - the ones what grip the flats like to absorb some of my cackhandedness.

My tools range from all sorts of campanies and have been collected over the years, I have not yet had any problems with any of the Halfords tools in my collection.

Yep, you'll want some 6 point (metric for the Suzi) sockets for the softer bolts, fork caps...

It is worthwhile reading this. A fairly good explanation about socket drives etc.

I got the 120 pc halfords prof. set the other day; my dad has the same, and he's pretty much pulled apart a honda NC24 and put it together using that kit, save some specialist tools

As already said, you'll never have all the tools you'll need, you always end up doing something a little more adventerous which requires a different tool.

I have some Halfords Pro stuff and seen me right so far. It's nice knowing you have a lifetime guarantee (keep hold of your receipt though, just to make things easier if you ever need to take something back). Me, Mac99, Squirell_Hunter havent broken them yet and we're a bunch of monkeys (Kerbside auto's open for business as usual ; ) and no jobs too big)

Try this mate, costs more but hey, as in previous posts, you get what you pay for...

Try things like this maybe. (I'd buy this, actually I'd buy the bigger set, search for Deluxe Toolset' if I was starting again)

http://www.ccw-tools.com/product.asp?P_ID=20519&af=1792

I often see kits like this or bigger/smaller in my Land Rover mags.

If it'll last working on a big daft car it'll be alright on a little japanese sportsbike right

Thanks for the tips all.

Think I'll go for the Halford pro kit mentined earlier and maybe a set of spanners as well.

Like the idea of being able to take it back if it breaks.

I'll be back when the SV is in bits all over the garage

+1

The halfords pro ones are very good, and if you destroy them you can take them back and get a new one.

As above, try to go for 6 sided sockets rather than the 12point ones.

If you do a search, there are lots of other threads on what brands and what to get to work on bikes.
